The hardships of business ownership: How do you cope?

April 10, 2008

Even though entrepreneurs have exciting goals and a high level of enthusiasm for the success of their venture, down and discouraging times will come their way. How do they hang on, ride the storm, and reap the rewards?

I am very curious to know your thoughts on this. Have you been through a business related storm? How did you persevere? Do you feel you are better off for having endured the challenge(s)? -MsBusinessCoach

I have had hardships as a business owner. When faced with starting the business I currently have, THE VANELLA GROUP, Changing Minds for Changing Times, I stepped out with a plan and on faith. I left a job I loved to do what was calling me. Things were going well. I had a contract in California and was scheduled to go there when my house burned up. That was a life altering experience and yes, it happened a few days before I was to leave for CA. In a state of shock and a resolve to be unstoppable, I kept moving forward. What made the difference for me? I had the brilliant and loving support of my daughter who handled all of the insurance business, arranged for me to live in an exclusive apartment building and placed pictures of herself and my loving grandchildren in the place for my return.

As a business owner, I learned the importance of having loving and supportive people in your life to bolster you through challenging as well as successful times. A business for one is no fun!
